FAQs:

💙WHAT:

The Journey2Med Conference is an annual event that brings together aspiring medical students from underrepresented and unsupported backgrounds to learn more about the medical school application process. The conference is FREE to attend and is split into two parts: "Thinking of Applying" and "Smash Your Application Process." The conference includes informative presentations, panel discussions and Q&A sessions.

💙WHO?

This conference is aimed at students entering Year 11, Year 12 and Year 13 in September 2024, however, all aspiring medics are welcome to attend!

💙WHEN?

8th June 2024, 9:00am - 2:30pm

💙WHERE?

Will be held virtually on Zoom.

💙WIDENING PARTICIPATION CRITERIA:

The purpose of this event is to make medicine more accessible by equipping the next generation of future doctors who otherwise have limited resources and information. To be eligible for a ticket you must meet one or more of our widening participation criteria:

  • Attend a state school for secondary school or sixth form.
  • Living in a geographical area with low levels of progression onto higher education or of high deprivation.
  • From a family where the parents do not have a university degree.
  • Have lived, or are currently living, in local authority care.
  • Be estranged (living independently) from parents or guardians.
  • Are a young carer (have caring responsibilities for a close relative with a disability, long-term illness, mental health condition, or drug or alcohol problem).
  • To have previously received or are currently eligible for free school meals or pupil premium.
  • Have a disability.
  • Please note that students may be asked for proof of their answers.

💙WHY WIDENING PARTICIPATION MATTERS:

The aim of widening participation is to ensure that all those who have the ability to attend medical school have the opportunity to do so.

With an increasingly diverse general population, it is vital that the medical workforce is representative of the patients served. Widening participation helps young people from disadvantaged backgrounds realise their ambitions and achieve their full potential.
